Question 🙋🏻 Need some serious answers… what is a foundation for a bed?

Hey guys. Help a confused one here.

So I just bought a new mattress (foam hybrid, if that matters), and now I’m realizing I have no idea what a “foundation” actually is. Is it just a fancy word for a box spring? Do I need one if I already have a basic metal frame? I’m trying to avoid wrecking my new bed or voiding the warranty.

If I do really have to buy one, can you share some recommendations on solid, affordable foundations? Bonus points if it's easy to assemble and doesn’t squeak every time I turn over.

It’s basically a modern box spring. If your metal frame doesn’t have slats or support, you’ll need one. Would recommend you the DLX foundation since it is sturdy and slatted
